The first passive public building in the region with advanced energy-saving solutions is being built in Siemiatycze. This is the East-West International Environmental Education Center.
The project involves the construction of an indoor sports and recreation pool as a model passive building.
- The International Center for Environmental Education is a public building constructed in a low-energy form, which is the only one in the region and one of the few of its kind in Poland - said the Mayor of Siemiatycze, Piotr Siniakowicz. - We want to be a transmission belt that will exchange experiences between the east and west of Poland and Europe - he emphasized. He also expressed hope that the investment will serve not only the residents of the city, but also the entire poviat.
According to the assumptions, the building will use renewable energy sources and hybrid systems consisting of: gas boiler room (low-emission gas fuel), heat pumps (geothermal energy), photovoltaic cells (solar energy) and equipment for heat recovery from sewage (waste energy). The building is demonstrative, therefore it will be made available to visitors. On this occasion, meetings on renewable energy and energy-saving construction will also be organized.
The construction of the swimming pool began in autumn 2018, so far more than half of the work has been done. The investment cost is almost PLN 30 million, of which PLN 15.4 million is co-financed from the Regional Operational Program of the Podlaskie Voivodship.
