As part of the first project (stage III), the city of Suwałki purchased 15 low-emission buses and introduced a passenger information system. Fifteen monitors and two sets of information boards appeared on buses, and ten electronic boards at stops. The "city public bicycle system" will be implemented, under which, among others, twelve bicycle stations with terminals and 120 bicycles, including electric bikes and tandems.
To improve and facilitate urban transport, the city planned to reconstruct the Daszyński Street, including construction of a bicycle path, sidewalk, bays and a bus stop. The Leśna Street was extended. The project included reconstruction of the intersection of Leśna with Raczkowska and Wojczyński streets. As part of the project, the workshop in the PGK building was adapted to service CNG buses.
The value of this investment is nearly PLN 30 million, and the co-financing from the Regional Operational Programme equals nearly PLN 26 million. This project was selected in a competition for sustainable urban mobility, for example investments in public transport. It is not the only low-emission transport project in Suwałki. In October 2020, the city authorities signed a contract for co-financing the project "Improving the quality of public transport in the city of Suwałki - stage IV".
Thanks to the subsidy, 4 low-emission buses will be purchased, and a city bike system will be created (four stations and 40 bicycles - including electric and tandem). There will be new bicycle paths, sidewalks, electronic boards at stops and bus bays. The purchase of modern stock as well as the city bike system means better mobility of residents, reducing traffic congestion and reducing noise. There are also more benefits for the environment - convenient and comfortable public transport in Suwałki is to encourage people to change cars to buses or to use city bikes. Co-financing comes from the Regional Operational Programme. The total value of the second project is almost PLN 8 million.
