"You have a reason to live. Examine breasts" is the motto of the project implemented by the Białystok Centre of Oncology. Its main goal is to reduce mortality caused by breast cancer among the inhabitants of Podlaskie. The project involves activities that raise the health awareness and encourage women to care for their own health. The aim is to increase the number of mammography tests, in particular among people from the so-called "white spots" in which the number of reports for research is the lowest. In total, the project will support a group of over 3 500 women aged 50-69.
The activities within the project include:
- information and educational campaign in local media, encouraging women to get preventive breast examination;
- health-oriented education, including training in breast self-examination. As part of this activity, it is planned to organize events, meetings, open days in the Białystok Center of Oncology etc. devoted to the prevention of breast cancer. In order to reach as many people as possible with educational activities, it is also planned to participate in various local actions, festivals and events organized in the region;
- mammography for participants of the project. In case it is needed, the organisers plan to provide transport for examination available to women from smaller towns and people with disabilities. They can also provide care for a dependent person during the study.
The project is implemented in cooperation with the hospital in Wysokie Mazowieckie.
